KidShield

Terms of Service

Last Updated: March 27, 2026

Welcome to KidShield. By installing, accessing, or using the KidShield application ("App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully before use.

1. Eligibility & Authorised Use

KidShield is a tool designed exclusively for parents and legal guardians. By using the App you confirm that:

Using KidShield to monitor adults, spouses, co-workers, or any person who is not your minor child without their explicit informed consent is strictly prohibited and may constitute a serious criminal offence. We reserve the right to terminate accounts immediately if misuse is detected and to report such misuse to relevant authorities.

2. What KidShield Does and Does Not Do

We are committed to complete transparency about the capabilities and limitations of the App. Please read this section carefully before subscribing.

2.1 Features the App Provides

2.2 Technical Limitations — What the App Cannot Do

The following limitations are permanent technical constraints imposed by mobile operating systems and application encryption standards. No parental control application on the market can overcome these limitations without device rooting or enterprise MDM, which KidShield does not support.

Limitation Reason
Cannot intercept or decrypt messages in transit Apps like WhatsApp, iMessage, Signal, and Telegram use end-to-end encryption. The message content is mathematically inaccessible during transmission. KidShield cannot break this encryption. The Message Monitor (Section 2.3) reads only what is already displayed on the child's screen — it does not intercept messages mid-transit.
Cannot read messages the child has not opened The Message Monitor reads text currently displayed on screen. Unopened messages, notifications, and archived chats are not accessible.
Cannot read messages in Signal or Telegram Secret Chats These apps enable FLAG_SECURE, which prevents any other app — including accessibility services — from reading their screen content. This is a deliberate privacy protection that KidShield respects.
Cannot view photos or videos inside third-party apps Android app sandboxing prevents any app from accessing another app's internal storage or content. The Message Monitor captures text only; images, videos, voice notes, and stickers are not captured.
Cannot read emails (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) Email apps are sandboxed and are not included in the Message Monitor's scope.
Cannot decrypt HTTPS web page content DNS filtering blocks domains but cannot inspect the content of encrypted (HTTPS) traffic without a device-level SSL certificate, which KidShield does not install.
Full monitoring features are not available on iPhone (iOS) child devices Apple's iOS platform does not permit third-party Accessibility Services, Device Admin APIs, or background VPN-based content filtering. The Message Monitor is Android-only. Location tracking will be available on iOS; app blocking and Message Monitor are not available on iOS.
Cannot guarantee detection of all harmful content The on-device pattern-matching engine targets known harmful categories but may not detect all forms of inappropriate material, coded language, slang, or content in non-English languages.
May conflict with Google Family Link or device MDM profiles If a child device already has Google Family Link or a school MDM profile active, KidShield's Device Administrator features may be limited or blocked.
What this means for parents: KidShield is most effective as a tool to limit access to apps and websites, track location, and receive alerts — rather than as a full surveillance tool. If your child is using WhatsApp or Instagram, we recommend using the Message Monitor to flag dangerous language and time-limiting those apps for balanced protection.

2.3 Message Monitor — How It Works & Your Responsibilities

This feature is off by default. You must explicitly enable it in the Parent Dashboard for each child.

When enabled, the Message Monitor uses Android's Accessibility Service to read text currently displayed on screen in supported messaging apps (WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Discord, TikTok, Telegram standard chats, and Android SMS). The text is scanned on the child's device using a pattern-matching engine for four harm categories: grooming language, self-harm / suicide, sexting requests, and bullying / threats.

If a harmful pattern is detected: a short excerpt (maximum 120 characters) of the flagged text is saved to the parent's alert feed in the Parent Dashboard. The parent receives a push notification. No further text is stored.

If no harmful pattern is detected: the text is discarded immediately. Nothing is transmitted or stored.

By enabling this feature you accept the following responsibilities:

3. Subscription & Payments

4. Safety Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability

KidShield is designed to assist parents in monitoring children's digital activity. It is NOT a substitute for active parental supervision.

5. Parent Responsibility

By using KidShield, you acknowledge and accept that:

6. Account & Data

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. We are not responsible for unauthorised access resulting from your failure to secure your login details.

Upon account deletion (via the Parent Dashboard or by emailing info@kidshield.family), all data associated with your account — including any stored message alert excerpts — will be purged within 48 hours. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

7. Termination

You may cancel your subscription and delete your account at any time. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account without notice if we determine that you have violated these Terms, particularly the prohibition on monitoring adults without consent.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the App. Continued use of the App after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by applicable law. Where required by local law, users may have additional rights under the consumer protection legislation of their country of residence, and those rights shall apply in addition to these Terms. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you may have under the mandatory laws of your jurisdiction.
